My submission for the "Inception - The Big Under" comic book cover contest.
I thought a lot about what I would like to do for this cover.. At first, I didn't want to do an scene from the comic, because I have no idea what the art is going to look like, and I didn't want them to compete, or make it seem like the cover was out of place. I was thinking about doing some sort of graphic maze, or typographic illustration, but I didn't want that to compete with the title of the comic. SO, I decided to illustrate the scene in which Tadashi is in the alleyway. I thought it was a good compromise, in that we just see a silhouette of the character, nothing detailed. Also this composition allowed for a much stronger mood than a maze or something could have, it is much more "Inception". I used cool blues, greens, and grays, to keep within the Inception mood, and I added clouds and fog to convey the smokiness, and intangibility of a dream. Lastly, I tried to set up the composition so that the viewer feels like they are a part of the scene, almost as if it could be their dream they are viewing.
I think it turned out really well, I'd love to hear what you think!
Thanks, the sky is actually from a photograph I took before, but I thought it fit. It was just a matter of trying to blend it in with the illustration.
